Beware the poets
they put all of their loves,
encapsulated in words,
in pithy boxes,
enshrined.
Little wolf-spiders
in sheeps’ clothing,
they hang out in corners,
unassuming spectators,
ready to trap you
in a moment
tangled, spun
into their invisible web.
Kind of dashing the image of the romantic poet here, and poking a bit of fun at myself. I do feel a little guilty sometimes, because all is fair in poetry and writing. Found this ickily beautiful banana spider hanging on its web above a street parking pay station at Spanish River Beach in Boca Raton, FL.
Lupita Eyde-Tucker is a bilingual poet and translator raised in New Jersey and Guayaquil, Ecuador. She is the winner of the 2021 Unbound Book Festival Emerging Poet Award, the 2019 Betty Gabehart Prize, and in 2018 was selected as an AWP Writer to Writer Mentee by poet Maggie Smith. In 2022 her poetry manuscript, "Eucalyptus," was a finalist for the Andrés Montoya Prize from Letras Latinas. The manuscript explores her Sephardic Jewish ancestry and bi-cultural heritage.
Not Enough Poetry 
You are right. Full time writers can get lost and lose the value of what love is. I like the poem. People with great talent can be difficult. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

Yeah … haha .. it can be flattering to be tangled in their web too. My children have teased me though, they can tell when I am in one of those poetic moments, “Uh oh, she’s got that look in her eye- Mama’s got a poem in her head again!”

By the way–i got married in Boca Raton–Early Mistake Number One–it was on the beach, just the two of us and this real estate guy who had a license to perform weddings, when two scuba divers in full black wet suits, flippers, goggles and helmets–looking like they had just landed from Mars– wandered upon the scene and said how cool, and asked if they could be a part of it, so they became our witnesses.

Well I think a spouse of significant other could count themselves luicky to be involved with a poet especially when it comes to getting cards that aren’t Hallmark jargon filled sentiments. When I was married /I always kept a supply of Papyrus cards on hand to use when I’d written a poem to my wife and shrunk it down and put it inside. Too bad she didn’t much care for poetry or art for thatmatter. But she did like the Papyrus cards. >KB

Yes, I would think so too. Of course, I come from the poet’s side of things 🙂 My husband though likes to write poems also, so he appreciates the romantic ones.
